Light is an essential to life on earth. Not only its biological role in the plant world upon which, ultimately, our food supplies depend, but also in our psyche and our well being.

Ruth lives in east Suffolk, and since 2011 has developed a body of work in watercolour in which she responds to the play of light in all seasons on these undramatic agricultural landscapes. Even in the work inspired by coastal locations, she reflects a sense of calm and stillness and sometimes of brooding darkness.

In 2016 Ruth's work was featured on Sky Arts in their "Landscape Artist of the Year 2016" competition.

In 2015, Ruth was artist in residence at "Stwidio Maelor" in North Wales, set in landscapes closer to those of her childhood: the massive hills, deep valleys and dark stone and slate quarries of Snowdonia. Several pieces in this exhibition are work which has begun to emerge from these places. There is much more yet to come, the challenge of responding to such different forms taking time to find expression.

Ruth is a successful exhibitor in both the Sunday Times and Royal Watercolour Society Contemporary watercolour Competitions, showing at The Mall and Bankside Galleries, London. Her work is held in Australia and the USA, and she is represented by galleries in East Anglia.
