Schools Project

The Brander Room, just across the yard from the main gallery, is reserved for the work of children from local schools, mainly primary school children as their art is so spontaneous and open to the experience offered. The aim of the project is threefold:

• to encourage young children to feel relaxed and enjoy visiting an art gallery - an environment usually regarded as quite formal
• to enable the children to experience, and be stimulated by, the wide range of art on view
• to enable each child (whatever its ability or stage of progress) to feel the satisfaction of participating in an actual exhibition.

Each school will be invited to choose a theme and will be allocated a two week exhibition. Pupils will be encouraged to create a wide range of work including paintings, drawings, models and sculpture.
